Billy Joe "Bill" Lingle, age 89, of Tuttle, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Bill was born October 16, 1935 in Tuttle, Oklahoma, a son of Pearl (McKinney) and Attis Lingle. He attended school at Bride Creek in his early years until attending at Tuttle where he was an all sports athlete in football, basketball, and baseball Bill graduated with the Tuttle High School class of 1955.
Bill received a full scholarship playing football in New Mexico, but found out that the sand and grit was not his preference. He returned to his roots and hometown of Tuttle, Oklahoma where he spent the rest of his life. He met Timmie Base on a blind date at the Star Pharmacy and the rest was history. By the next year, the two pledged to love, cherish, and stand by one another and they did just that for the next 67 years. After their wedding July 27, 1957 at Tuttle Christian Church, they enjoyed water skiing at Ft. Cobb lake, dancing and enjoying life together. Bill and Timmie were blessed with four children Jamie Linn, Steven Wayne, Bryan Paul, and Andrew James. Bill was a hands on Dad who worked hard providing for his family while also making quality time fishing, hanging out at the filling station, and watching lots of sports on television. His favorite role of all was being "Pa" to his seven grandchildren. He loved attending their activities and pestering them every chance he got.
Bill enlisted in the United Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his return home, he spent the majority of his working career at the corner of Main and HWY 92 working at the filling station. While there were multiple owners, the Walker family was who he loved and worked for the longest. Whether he was working as a mechanic, fixing flats, changing oil, or driving delivery trucks, Bill was happiest working with his hands.
Bill enjoyed being outdoors and spent countless hours fishing the local farm ponds. He was known by his grandkids for having a special gift winning plush animals from the claw machine at Wal-Mart and they now try to follow in his footsteps as well. He had a work ethic that was second to none, loved everyone, and everyone loved him. Bill will be missed by his family, his friends, and the Tuttle community who loved him dearly.
