Calvin Ray Cozad, age 85, of Blanchard, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2024, at his home in Blanchard, Oklahoma.
Calvin was born June 06, 1939, in Riverside California, to Ivan and Dollie Cozad. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1957 and then attended Idaho State University.
Calvin enjoyed cars, selling night crawlers, delivering newspapers, and loved bulldogs growing up. He also enjoyed hanging out with family and friends.
On July 25, 1959, Calvin married Charlotte McClain, and they had one daughter, Kim Cozad. Charlotte passed away on April 24, 1994. Calvin began working as a police officer and conducted foot patrols and later a motor officer for the Pocatello Police Department in Idaho for 12 years. After leaving the police department, Calvin began a career as a truck driver. After Kim’s passing in 1982, Calvin raised his grandchildren who were later adopted by him and Charlotte.
On December 23, 1995, Calvin married Susan Marie (Sherer) Miller in Amarillo, Texas. Calvin retired as a teamster driver from CF Trucking. Calvin and Susan began their own business as hotshot drivers. They both also enjoyed volunteering their time at the Ronald McDonald House in Amarillo, Texas. After retiring from their business and volunteering, they moved to Blum, Texas. They later moved to Blanchard, Oklahoma for their retirement dream home.
Calvin was a talented artist, especially with oil paintings, enjoyed reconditioning and driving classic cars, snow skiing, watching the news and gospel channels, and reading books, especially his Louis L’Amour collection. Calvin also enjoyed growing roses and smoking his pipe. His favorite gospel song was, “In the Garden”.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Dollie Cozad; his first wife, Charlotte Cozad; their daughter, Kim Cozad; his sister, Sue Devenberg; his brother, Darryl Cozad; his nephew Steven Crawford; and his niece, Chelsea Fielding.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Cozad of Blanchard, Oklahoma; his children, Brittney Lucas and husband Brian of Lima, Ohio, Michael Cozad of Texas, Christy Reed and husband Earl of Blanchard, Oklahoma, Bobby Miller and wife Darlinda of Pueblo, Colorado; his grandchildren, Amadeus Kaiser, Aristotle Kaiser, Calvin Michael Cozad, Chevelle Cozad and Vance, Karissa Miller, and Kayleen Miller; He is also survived by his sister, Glenice Thompson of Amarillo, Texas; and her daughter, Cristi Fielding and her family; Darylann Cribbs, Matthew Reed, and Trevor Reed. They're all grandkids and he also had numerous great grandkids as well as a host of loved extended family.
The family will hold a special gathering at a later date.
