Carolyn Jean Snell

Carolyn Snell, 87, of Tuttle, Oklahoma passed away on March 05, 2025.

Carolyn was born on December 28, 1937 to Bertie and Rephored Snell in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was the eldest of four sisters, a role she embraced with a mix of leadership, curiosity, and a touch of mischief. As a sister, she was an instigator—the one who always had an idea for a new adventure, eager to push boundaries and try something different. From a young age, she had an adventurous spirit that set her apart.

Her love for sports and the outdoors was evident early on. Throughout her childhood and into her high school years, Carolyn was a natural athlete. She played softball, basketball, tennis, and swimming excelling in each with her competitive drive and determination. But perhaps what was most telling of her fearless nature was how the neighborhood boys would come knocking, inviting her to join their football games—she never hesitated to jump in and hold her own. While many girls were content with traditional pastimes, Carolyn found joy in tagging along with her father on hunting trips, appreciating the outdoors and the time spent together.

A dedicated student, Carolyn graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1956. Her ambition didn’t stop there; she immediately continued her education at Central State University, where she pursued not just one but two bachelor’s degrees—one in Physical Education and another in English. Her thirst for knowledge and her commitment to helping others led her to earn a master’s degree as well. With a passion for education and guidance, she became a school counselor at Midwest City High School. She thrived in this role, finding fulfillment in helping students navigate their future paths, whether it was choosing a college, selecting a career, or simply offering reassurance during uncertain times. Carolyn had a gift for listening and providing thoughtful advice, making a lasting impact on countless students' lives.

Even after retiring, her compassionate nature remained a defining trait. She took on the role of caregiver for a dear friend, selflessly dedicating her time and energy to ensuring their well-being. Though her professional life had ended, her desire to help others never faded.

In her quiet moments, Carolyn found joy in simple pleasures. She was an avid reader, often getting lost in the pages of a book, and she loved listening to her stereo, letting music fill the room. These were the small but meaningful ways she recharged, always appreciating the beauty in everyday life.

As an aunt, Carolyn was a source of unwavering support. She was known for her calm demeanor—rarely one to lose her temper—and she was always ready with a kind word or a listening ear. She had a way of making people feel heard and understood, a steady presence in the lives of those who needed her.

In many ways, Carolyn was a tomboy at heart. She never conformed to expectations of what a girl should or shouldn’t do, preferring instead to forge her own path. She felt just as comfortable roughhousing with the boys as she did excelling in academics or offering wise counsel to her students. She was a woman of strength, kindness, and adventure—a true example of independence and resilience.

She is survived by her sister Janet Williams; niece Tara Adams and husband Ed; nephew Jeff Morrow; niece Julie Morrow and husband Jay; nephew Scott Williams; niece Charelle Tootle and husband Bobby; niece Shelly Graves and Michael; nephew Jason Morrow; eleven great nieces and nephews; four great, great nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister Barbara Jeanguneat; sister Joyce Morrow; and brother-in-law Jerry Morrow
