Dan Oliver Griffin, age 81, of Tuttle, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Dan was born December 14, 1943 in Columbus, Georgia, a son of Helen and Henry Griffin. He came from humble beginnings moving often with his father serving in the United States Army. He attended high school in Columbus, Georgia where he was an active athlete on the basketball and baseball teams. Dan graduated with the Baker High School class of 1962.
Following high school, Dan made the roster as pitcher and first baseman of the local AAA Baseball league where he traveled for games. It wasn't long after his first season that Dan enlisted in the United States Air Force. His first assignment was at Tinker Air Force. While working the gate, Norma Hulsey pulled up to the base gate where she was attending a dance. Dan requested her phone number to get on the base and the rest was history. Six months later on October 4, 1963, the two pledged to love, honor, and support one another forever and they did just that for 61 years. They were blessed with two children Michael Dan and Steven Karl. He was a hands on Dad who coached little league teams, never missed a game, and was his sons biggest cheerleaders. His favorite role of all was being Papa to his grandchildren. He always looked forward to their visits and attending their activities.
Dan had a 20 year career with Frito Lay where he worked in sales and delivery in the Oklahoma City Metro area. He had a work ethic that was second to none leaving home at 4 am to begin his work day. Not only did he deliver Frito Lay products, he enjoyed eating them, and bringing home the newest products to his family.
Dan loved the outdoors and was a sports enthusiast and OU fan. It began with baseball and basketball and later transitioned to golf. He was happiest golfing with Norma in couples tournaments or alongside his three buddies Melvin, Sonny, and Norman. Dan loved to travel and preferred road trips all over the country playing golf. Throughout his life, Dan was a man of faith, a provider who dearly loved his family, and a loyal friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Dan is survived by his wife of 61 years Norma Griffin; son Mike Griffin; son Steve Griffin and wife Julie; grandson Nathan Griffin; granddaughter Paige Griffin; and brother David Griffin.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents Helen and Henry Griffin.
