Douglas Alan Phelps, 63, passed away on March 13, 2022, in Oklahoma City, OK.
Doug was born on October 27, 1958 in Chickasha, OK, to Darlene (Daniel) and Leonard Phelps.
Doug graduated from Amber-Pocasset High School in 1976 and went on to earn a BS degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1980. He began his IT career at Phillips Petroleum Co. in Bartlesville, OK, and he continued working in the IT industry at various locations until his retirement from Seagate Technology in 2017. At that point, Doug’s property management company became his second career. He continued to expand that business until the time of his death.
Doug married Lyla Brinkley April 30, 1983 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and they were blessed with two children Lindsey Anne and Bryan Douglas.
Doug loved to travel and often combined traveling with a hiking adventure. He was known for taking “short-cuts” that actually made the trip longer. He enjoyed woodworking and built furniture for the home and toys for his grandson. Doug always looked forward to the weekly pool games with his friends. Doug’s favorite new job was that of being a grandpa. He had a kind heart and a giving spirit that will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Doug is survived by his wife of 38 years Lyla Phelps of Tuttle, OK; daughter Lindsey Phelps (Jameson O'Guinn) of Kansas City, MO; son Bryan Phelps of Oklahoma City, OK; brother Dan Phelps (Martiza Cortes) of League City, TX; brother-in-law Bill Elmer of Henderson, NV; grandson Jack O'Guinn of Kansas City, MO; niece Kristen Roller and husband Josh of Fayetteville, AR and niece Jennifer Elmer of Brooklyn, NY.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents Darlene and Leonard Phelps and his sister Dana Elmer.
Memorial Contributions can be made in Douglas's name to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Mail to 3 International Drive, Suite 200 Rye Brook, New York 10573.
