Jerry Carr, age 82, of Tuttle, Oklahoma, passed away on Veterans Day Friday, November 10, 2023 at his home in Tuttle, Oklahoma.
Jerry was born July 28, 1941 in Electra, Texas and was the only son of Inez and Clarence Carr. He was raised alongside his sister Jeannette in Tuttle. Jerry came from humble beginnings working on the family farm where they raised cattle, worked in the fields and sold their watermelons. While in school, he spent his time playing football and basketball for the Tuttle Tigers. Jerry read every book in the library, graduating early from Tuttle High School.
Jerry married Karen Cecil and although the union did not remain, he was blessed with two sons: Jay William and Jon Gregory. He felt drawn to serve his country and made the choice to join the United States Army. In his own words "I want to go where the action is and fight to be a part of the solution." Jerry was honored to serve his country and remained patriotic for the rest of his life.
Jerry was happiest at home spending time with his family, listening to music and was a wonderful storyteller. He spent the last three years writing three books. The first is titled Lisa Marie and Elvis Little Tree, the second The World as One, and the third 300 Miles to Mercy. All are available on Amazon, of course.
He met the love of his life, Pat Howell-Bivins in June of 1972. After three months of dating, they married in a preacher's living room on September 22, 1972 in Lawton, OK. Because Jerry loved being at home, Pat decided to have parties at home to make sure he would go! In 1981, they were shocked, surprised, happy and blessed when their family was completed with the birth of their youngest child and daughter, Cameron Christian.
Jerry was a hard worker, had a great sense of humor and the heart of a servant. As a father, his children knew they could depend on him. He was wise, a man of few words, a profound philosopher, and when he spoke, his children listened. They all believed they he knew everything under the sun and could fix anything. He was loving, never judgmental, and an old soul at heart. As a grandpa, he dearly loved his six grandchildren: Rachel, Ford, Cooper, Andrew, Presley and Avery.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 51 years Pat Carr, son Jay Carr and wife Trish; Jon Carr and husband JaeFinn; daughter Jennifer Gaines and husband Patrick; daughter Cameron Redus and husband Zachary; grandchildren Rachel Carr, Ford Gaines, Cooper Gaines, Andrew Willis, Presley Redus, and Avery Redus, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jerry is preceded in death by his son, Brent Bivins; sister, Jeannette Case and
parents, Inez and Clarence Carr.
