Jr Garcia

June 18, 1966 — July 30, 2023

JR Garcia, age 57, of Yukon, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2023 while vacationing on the Guadalupe River in Texas.

JR was born June 18, 1966 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. He was raised in Alex, Oklahoma where he was involved in the football program, liked by many, and graduated from High School with the class of 1984.

After high school, JR went to work in construction doing backhoe work and building bridges. He spent the last 25 - 30 years working in the gas industry. JR was a plant operator for Kinder Morgan Energy Infrastructure and Solutions and in recent years Enlink Midstream Energy Resource. He loved his job and the guys he worked with, considered them family, and called them his "kids".

JR was known for his love of OU football and softball, Harley Davidson, his Hot Wheels collection, and vintage car collectibles. One of his favorite hobbies was woodworking. He remained very athletic during his adult years and for a time was very active in bicycling. He did the Oklahoma Freewheel several years along with the MS 150, Hotter'n Hell Hundred in Texas and numerous other fund raising bike tours throughout Oklahoma and surrounding states. He upgraded manual pedals to his motorized 2 wheeled Harley motorcycle and enjoyed several day trips with friends over the years. He always was an avid outdoorsman and found peace and comfort in nature. He loved his weekend hikes at Lake Overholser and was successful in hiking to the top of Longs Peak in Estes Park, Colorado and also made the trek up the Summit in Taos, New Mexico 3 times. He was planning another hike up the Summit this September.

JR met the love of his life Dana Woods and the two had an instant connection.  They loved their hikes together, road trips on the motorcycle, and their weekend breakfast dates.  The two of them knew they had found something special in one another and were intentional not to take it for granted.  While their four years together was not long enough, they both knew they were lucky to have found their forever.
