Lara Jean Ashley

Lara Jean Ashley, age 56, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025 at her home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Lara was born on April 27, 1968, in Norman, Oklahoma, to Barbara and Donald Mills, the only daughter in the family. In second grade, her family moved to a home just five miles from the Mexican border, where she got her start raising pigs for FFA—a role that instilled in her a strong work ethic early on.

After high school, Lara met and married Rick Selser, and together they welcomed their daughter, Courtney Jean, into the world. In 1993, through a family connection, she encountered the love of her life, David Ashley. Their connection was instant, and just six months later, they were married in Bullhead, Nevada, on July 3, 1994. Their life together was filled with annual celebrations of fireworks, trips to casinos, and concerts—a tradition that lasted throughout the 31 wonderful years they shared.

David and Lara's family grew even more with the arrival of Taylor Marie about a year and a half later, followed by Kyli Don and Morgan Drake. As a mom, Lara was the epitome of cool—always involved in her children’s lives and making everyone feel welcome.

Beyond her role as a devoted wife and mother, Lara had a passion for arts and crafts, often attending scrapbooking clubs. She juggled selling Avon and Mary Kay products while raising her kids and loved the thrill of thrifting for a great deal. Her family affectionately remarked that she had "more pens than Hobby Lobby." Known for her beautiful singing voice and her impeccable style—always perfectly made-up, even on casual days at home—Lara's vibrant personality was best summed up by her infectious, unforgettable laugh.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years Larry David Ashley; daughter Taylor Dominguez; daughter Kyli Whygle; son Morgan Ashley; mother Barbara Mills; brother Kyle Mills and many friends and family.

Preceded by her father Donald Mills; grandmother Mable Young; and son-in-law Danny Whygle
