Reba Mae Stephens

Reba Stephens, age 96, of Tuttle, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Tuttle, Oklahoma.


Reba was born September 11, 1927 in Purcell, Oklahoma, a daughter of Samuel and Bertha (Mavus) Cox. She was raised in Tuttle where she attended school graduating with the Tuttle High School class of 1945. She went on to take the train to Chickasha, Oklahoma to further her education at the Oklahoma College for Women. Reba majored in home economics and music while also being involved in the OCW Touring Choir.


Reba met Calvin Stephens when he returned home from WWII. The two fell in love and were married January 30, 1947 at First Baptist Church in Tuttle, Oklahoma. The couple was blessed with three children Michael Phillip, Mark Stewart, and Sherry Lynn. She was a mother who was involved in her children's activities, a meticulous house keeper, and a great cook. Her ability to cook comfort food was second to none. She was a proud grandma of her ten grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.


Reba was a woman of faith, loving wife, and devoted mother. She has been a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Tuttle for over 50 years. She has served in the WMU, vacation bible school, Sunday school teacher, and singing alto in the choir. She also was a beloved pastors wife while Calvin was pastoring at Sherwood Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Reba read the bible cover to cover annually beginning at the age of 19. Many times, she accomplished this twice in one year.


Reba is survived by her son Mike Stephens; son Mark Stephens and wife Anita; daughter Sherry Wood and husband Jimmy Daniel; grandchildren Tommie Stephens and husband John, Sarah Stephens and husband Clint, Candi Trammell and husband Dustin; Mindy Emerson and husband Blake, Jana Stephens, Chance Stephens, Joseph Wood and wife Katye, Brittiany Wood, Matthew Wood and wife Kristina; great grand children Heather, James, Chenoa, Lydia, Thomas, Grant, Stephen, Anna, Avery, Hayli, Ryder, Jaidyn, Addison, Danielle, Ruth Mae; great great granchildren Cash, Hailey, Addy, Bella, Matthew, James Christopher, and Davi ; sister Wanda Corollo, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


Reba is preceded in death by her husband Calvin Stephens, granddaughter Amy Wood; parents Bertha and Samuel Cox; sister Almeta Ronk; sister Dottie Ferry; brother Brooklyn Cox; brother Dan Cox; sister Bernice Jeffries; and her niece raised with her like a sister Doretha Peterson.
