Russell Wayne Wariner

Russell Wayne "Rusty" Wariner, age 70, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023.

Rusty was born June 30, 1953 in Victorville, California the only son of Loyd and Jeanine Wariner. He was raised in Tuttle, Oklahoma alongside his younger sister Becky where he attended school graduating with the class of 1971.

He married Vonda Logston February 14, 1981 and shared a life for 25 years. They were blessed with two children Christopher Ryan and Kayla Danielle. With Christopher, he was Scoutmaster for Troop 291 of Moore, Oklahoma and attended all of his band activities. With Kayla, he was troop dad in Girl Scout troop 798 also of Moore, Oklahoma where he was involved with service projects and enjoyed going camping.

Rusty attended Moore First United Methodist Church were he was involved. He was patriotic at heart and served in the Oklahoma Air National Guard 205th for over twenty years.

Rusty loved his parents, sister, nieces, nephews, children, and granddaughter Thora. He always looked forward to Girl Scout cookie season, also now part of Moore Girl Scout Troop 798, so he could get his annual order of Trefoils. Thora always said "I need to call Pop Pop and get his cookie order!" He enjoyed working on projects with his hands and was a master at auto mechanics, machine work, and communications. Rusty was a sports enthusiast and loyal fan of the OU Sooners and loved attending his nieces softball games. He had a special companion with his service dog and best friend Chloe. He loved taking her on daily walks and grilling with her when the weather was nice.

Russell is survived by his father Loyd Wariner; son Chris Wariner; daughter Kayla Wariner; granddaughter Thora Wariner; sister Becky Workman; nephew Kyle Workman and wife Alicia; niece Andi Brooks and husband Brock; great nieces Mallorie Workman, Payton and Parker Brooks; and great nephew Cade Brooks, and a host of extended family and friends.

Russell is preceded in death by his mother Ruth Jeanine Wariner.
