Stephen Ray Kirk

July 26, 1960 — March 25, 2024

Stephen Ray Kirk, known affectionately as Steve, Big Steve, and Poppy passed away on March 25th, 2024, at home surrounded by his family and friends. Born on July 26, 1960, to Lusby and Patsy Kirk. Steve was the third of four boys, Glenn, Ken, and Tim. He was part of a big extended family that enjoyed time together in Texas on the family ranch, playing with all his cousins and causing his grandparents great anxiety. This is where he started his motto of "Its easier to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission". He was a curious boy with a huge heart.

The young Kirk family moved quite often, but Oklahoma City is where Steve called home. He graduated from Moore High School class of 1979. Steve and his loyal "posse of friends" would drive the streets of Moore, spend hours in boats at Lake Eufaula, and find every path, trail, and pond to learn life lessons on how to become men. This is when he learned the trade of Tile Setter from his dad along with his brothers. He was an adventurous teenager with a huge heart.

Steve's hobbies were rich and varied like his friendships. He was a golfer, hunter, self-taught musician, and artist. His biggest hobby was collecting friends and "kids" that would call him Dad. He was close with his parents and brothers and spoke with them daily. He had a contagious smile, never met a stranger and was always first to make someone feel comfortable and important. His happy place was Lake Eufaula with his family. He would choose a sunrise or sunset on the boat with those he loved over a fancy vacation. He loved his family fiercely and unconditionally and would always answer his phone to visit or be called to duty to rescue someone from a flat tire, or from eating alone at lunch, or to just sitting with someone who was hurting. He was an active man with a huge heart.

In 1989 Steve married his wife, Jennifer Smith, in a ceremony in Stockton, Missouri. They made a commitment to each other and never wavered from that. They dreamed of a tight knit loving family with a place their kids would always call home. Together they raised 3 children, Megan (Brian) Thomas, Taylor (Caleb) Neal, Tanner Kirk (Lindsey Yeager). He was a family man with a huge heart.

Sadly, Steve was predeceased in death by his bother Glenn Kirk, but they are now reunited.

His memory will forever be held in the hearts of his surviving family: his wife Jennifer, his children Megan, Taylor, and Tanner; His grandchildren, Keagan, Turner, Tally, Grace, Eastyn, Kylie, Lexi, and Jaden. His mother and father Pat and Lusby Kirk, his brothers, Ken (Sabra) Kirk, Tim Kirk (Joan Dulle), and his mother-in-law Cindy Witt.

A service to celebrate Steve's life will be held on March 29, 2024, at the Tuttle First Baptist Church, located at 14 SW Second Street, Tuttle Oklahoma.

Steve will be remembered as a loving husband, son, father, poppy, brother, and friend.
