Sun K Barker

Sun K Barker, a cherished matriarch and dedicated community member, peacefully departed from this world on September 7, 2024, in Tuttle, Oklahoma, at the age of 87. Born on February 12, 1937, in the vibrant city of Pusan, South Korea, Sun’s life was a tapestry woven with love, diligence, and an insatiable appetite for knowledge.

Throughout her years, Sun embodied the essence of devotion, not merely as a mother and grandmother but as a pillar of strength for her family. She worked with unwavering commitment as a cashier at the Tinker Air Force Base Commissary for many years, a role that underscored her remarkable work ethic—one that was as unmatched as it was admirable. Her dedication extended beyond her professional life; she found boundless joy in hosting family gatherings, where her culinary talents shone brightly. Those fortunate enough to partake in her company were treated to sumptuous feasts of delectable Korean cuisine, each dish prepared with meticulous care and affection.

A lifelong learner, Sun believed that education was a treasure. She obtained her US Citizenship in 1967 and continued to learn many different languages as she traveled the world.

Sun's generosity of spirit was matched only by her loving nature. To her four children—Betty Moon and her husband Barney, George Anderson and his wife Allison, Lonnie Bill Sawyers and his wife Karen, and Yong Mi Dickerson—she imparted her wisdom and compassion, her legacy continuing through them. Her seven grandchildren, Jared Graves, Tyler Graves, Abigail Anderson, Hunter Anderson, Ryan Sawyers, Dilon Sawyers, Mike Dickerson, Kristina Graves, Chelsea Graves, and Imako Sawyers, along with her five great-grandchildren, Everett Graves, Norah Graves, Addison Graves, Lincoln Graves, and Andie Sawyers, will forever cherish the countless splendid memories crafted beneath her nurturing embrace.

Sun K Barker leaves behind a family profoundly shaped by her love and guidance. Her unforgettable essence will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her, her spirit enduring through cherished memories and the steadfast bonds she cultivated with those dear to her heart. Sun's family honors and celebrates the profound impact she made on her family and community, a legacy of love that will resonate through generations to come. She will be sadly missed but gloriously remembered.
