Tony Rex Simpkins, age 70, of Tuttle, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, January 31, 2025 at his home.
Tony was born November 06, 1954 in Shirley, Arkansas, a son of Lucille and J.T. Simpkins. He was raised in Shirley, Arkansas alongside his siblings Larry, Jerry, Richard, Janie, Tommy, Anita, Stevie, Bonnie, and Cindy. He played baseball and basketball for the Blue Devils graduating with the Shirley High School class of 1974.
Tony married Cindy Norris and from that union was blessed with his only living child Travis Darrell. He was a hard working man, always dependable, who made being present for any sporting event Travis had a priority. He loved big, never met a stranger, and everyone wanted to be around him. Tony was happiest when he had the opportunity to help others never wanting recognition for it.
Tony was an man who enjoyed the outdoors. He could spend hours farming never turning on the radio just listening to the hum of the tractor. Tony loved hunting deer, and could be found fishing any time of the day on one of the Hardesty's ponds. Tony's favorite topic outside of hunting, fishing, and athletics was buying, selling, and trading guns of any kind.
Tony met Maurine Shrek while spraying lawns. He was persistent that he could help her control the weeds in her lawn and she was determined that she could handle it herself. The next spring, when her weeds were awful, Tony showed up and this time Maurine said he could take care of her lawn. Shortly after, he asked her on a date to the casino and the rest was history. The two were married June 30, 2010 and from that day they found a love and companionship that had been missing for both of them. They enjoyed spending time in their travel trailer at the lake and four wheeling in the mountains. One of their favorite times together was checking cows looking for new babies. Simply being together was what they enjoyed, regardless what they were doing.
Tony is survived by his wife Maurine Simpkins; son Travis Simpkins and wife Tamara; brother Tommy Simpkins and wife Dawn; sister Janie Cooley; sister Anita Goodnight and husband Bob; sister Bonnie Wagner, and husband William; sister Cindy McClure and husband Richard, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
